A Mormon Romance

Charles Farrar Browne, who wrote using the pseudonym “Artemus Ward,” was a well-loved, and popular American Humorist who died at the young age of 32. Presented here is one of his short stories published in his collection “Artemus Ward (His Travels) Among The Mormons.” Charles poked a lot of fun at the Mormon’s expense in his writings, and no doubt his readers in the Civil War era found it all very entertaining. The LDS church was a hot topic for scrutiny. After all, at the time this story was written, the church was only 35 years old and hated by many Americans….
